“METASYSTEMS” is an extraordinarily interesting and ultimately beautiful work which will reward further viewing. It is notable for its originality and complexity, and as an exciting demonstration of the maturation of Batchelor’s ability to present complex ideas in accessible dance form.” - Bill Stephens, City News

METASYSTEMS is a series of live installations by James Batchelor and collaborators.

METASYSTEMS analyses our human interactions with the environment from the individual to the universal. Sourcing inspiration from high-rise construction sites in Melbourne’s Hoddle grid, METASYSTEMS is an observation of the rapidly evolving landscape we inhabit. Through the documentation and translation of the processes taking place at the construction site, METASYSTEMS is a subtle yet detailed choreography of linear and rhythmic constructions, an assemblage of concrete with the human body. This physically demanding and rhythmically hypnotic work creates the awareness of a world in flux, a space that is simultaneously being constructed and deconstructed.
